Rock Your Roots Festival

June 21, 2018

Locals Only youth participated in National Aboriginal Day festivities in Victoria Park on June 21st. More than 4,000 were in attendance that day at the ‘Rock Yout Roots’ Walk for Reconciliation. The LO youth artists set up mobile art carts beside Locals Only partners at  CHEP Good Food Inc. and taught participants how to make pop-bottle planters. The youth taught an innovative way to grow vegetables when the opportunity for a garden is not available. The pop-bottle planters are inexpensive and self-watering. At the event, more than 50 planters were made and are now growing peas, tomatoes, zucchini, and basil all over Saskatoon. The LO youth also taught festival attendees about indoor gardening and handed out educational pamphlets for people to recreate the project at home. The cart hosted participants of all ages and stages and walks of life, from children on a field trip, to RCMP officers, and locals from the community. Locals Only participants were pleased to participate in the National Aboriginal Day celebrations. We believe that our community is better when we all come together.
